Spiritual Cobwebs
Music: Aretey / Lyrics: Phil Hennessy

Oh, spider weave a web for me
Where the sunlight can shine through
Refracting such beautiful colours
Purple, green and blue
Such industry, and thought each time
Such symmetry, untaught design
Oh, such wonder, how complete
Each time you spin your net, so neat
Then destroyed, in one fell swoop
You start again, another loop
This network that you build so fine
Each better, stronger, every time
Your geometric source of food
Patterns from a source, so crude
…And all these webs you leave behind
Do you return from time to time?
And if your snare is lost, or broke
Would you repair each careful spoke?
Each tiny strand, collecting dust
Synthetic fibres, left to rust
It’s a tangled web we weave
Within our lives should we deceive
For every line we spin along
Just stays connected, right or wrong
For every web we dust away
One more appears in just one day
Another mess that will return
Another lesson to be learnt
Oh, spider weave a web for me
Where the sunlight can shine through
Refracting such beautiful colours
Purple, green and blue
Little Boys Fear
Music: Aretey / Lyrics: Afra Lindner (a message of love to Finn and Cyriel)

My little boy – why this fear?
You are safe here
Both at your moms and at your daddies house
But some boys at school said to you
“Your fokes are divorced too.
What happened to those boys might happen to you too”
What’s this about??
He was seven years old
And his brother was nine
They were left there in the cold
The worst of all crimes
What will they have felt?
What will they have seen?
Could they spread their tears?
And lay down quietly?
Could they conquer their fears?
And leave us piecefully?
My dearest son – we both deeply love you
Such’ll never happen to you too
Our conflicts’ll never be as vital as to harm you
I swear!!
Although you’re seven years old
And your brother is nine
We’ll never leave you in the cold
That’s the worst of all crimes
We care about how you feel
We care about what you see
You will learn from your tears
And live your life joyfully
You will learn from your fears
And grow up happily
Little boys fear - Little boys fear
Forgotten Times
Music: Aretey / Lyrics: Afra Lindner

No one at home, time to myself
No one looking over my shoulder
To see if I’m doing well
This is the time for day-dreaming
This is the time to think back
And remember almost forgotten times
Forgotten Times
While I watch the clouds
Drifting over me with the wind
I recall the beautiful sunset we watched
When we sat down at the beach
Near my hometown
When we sat down
The next day you had to return
Miles and miles away
Forgotten Times
In slumbers of memory – That long forgotten kiss…
The fire, desire – Still burning in the mist…
And sometimes, suddenly – The fog disappears…
The feelings, emotions, the shivers and the tears…
Enjoying, recalling – That stolen moment…
Totally surrendered – Completely translucent…
But then the interfering
Startled, memory’s gone
The ringtone keeps ringing
Fire returns to dawn…..
Bewitched (or not to be)
Music: Aretey / Lyrics: Afra Lindner

You tried to take me to the pyre
no bitch, a witch, that’s what you are
But I was too strong
You think I’m a witch
we’ve banned you
Now I’m in excile
now you’re in excile
Here’s my shanty
Hidden behind a tree
It’s the only way I can get a glimpse of my family
They’re laughing and singing and playing
nah nah – nanananah
Dancing around, fools they are
nah nananah – nah nah nah
I cannot hear what they’re saying
nah nah - nanananah
The distance is too far
nah nah nah
They’re laughing and singing and playing
nah nah nah nah
Drinking around, jerks they are
nah nah nah
For what it is that I am paying
nah nah nah nah
Why did they give me the tar?
nah nah nah
…..
Houses burnt down, ashes around
What happened here? Everything so dear
To me – now it is like hell. It makes me fear
No one’s alive, no one’s survived
Who’s the enemy? Or… could it have been me?
Have I said a curse? Is there really a witch in me?!?
…..
Or could it be
That some powers beyond me
For some reason
Need to spare
Just me…?
The Miraculous Flax - a legend from Utrecht
Music: Aretey with a touch of The Cloak / Lyrics: Afra Lindner

The spinning-wheel kept running
While she waited for her knight
The flax wouldn’t stop from depletion
Until he returned from his fight
Another had come to marry her
But she wanted to keep her faith
And instead of marrying this tyrant
She wished to wait ‘till he’d survive the crusade
Oh Father, please listen, I love him, my knight
Let me stay by his side
He is the one that I live my life for
Show this tyrant the door
But Father thought he was good party
So he agreed on the hand
She ran up the stairs of the tower
And in tears this was the message she sent:
Oh Father, please listen, I love him, my knight
And now you’re pushing me away from his side
Before you make me marry this tyrant-jerk
Let me finish my spinning work
What happened when she started spinning?
The flax never came to an end….!
The stock of flax never declined
When she ran out, new flax aligned
Even when she wished to rest
She had no choice but to endure the test
And suddenly she saw the light
Maintaining this ordeal would bring back her knight
The stock of flax never declined
When she ran out, new flax aligned
Even when she wished to rest
She had no choice but to endure the test
And suddenly she saw the light
Maintaining this ordeal would bring back her knight
The stock of flax never declined
When she ran out, new flax aligned
Even when she wished to rest
She had no choice but to endure the test
And suddenly she saw the light
Maintaining this ordeal would bring back her knight
Oh yes! My faith will be rewarded!
My knight will return with laughter
Oh.. This flax will be gone, soon
I won’t have to spin anymore
And to endure the test
We will live
We’ll live happily
Ever after…
I @m
Music: Aretey & Bram van Risp / Lyrics: Phil Hennessy

I am he, I am she
I am who you want me to be
I’m your laughter, I am your tears
I am the light, when dark appears
I am love, I am hate
I am everything: so great
I’m your favourite colour, your greatest fear
I am the noise – you cannot hear
I am music, I am war
I am truth, your cherished whore
And I’m your teacher, I’m your child
I’m whatever drives you wild
I’m that sigh within your heart
I’m what rips your life apart
I’m what makes your world go round
I’m that part of you that screams out LOUD
You think we’re love
….Eternally
Nothing remains
Music: Aretey / Lyrics: Afra Lindner

In my life - It seems that nothing, yeah really
nothing
Lasts forever
O yeah, nothing, I mean nothing remains
In my life - Oh everything, everything
Seems to change
And really nothing remains, but you
Love for example
How many hands ever entered my entire life
And left again?
Or were sent away by me?
Or did I run from myself?
I lost faith in love
In my life - It seemed that nothing, yeah really
nothing
Lasted forever
O yeah nothing remains, but you
Work for example
How many managers ruined my entire life?
And made me run
Or did run from myself?
Did I run from myself?
Is lost faith in love!
You came in my life, I thought you gave me stability
‘Cause you gave me the love that I was longing for
When you were with me I thought you gave me the ability
To make me fly, but you make me cry, oh..
Will I ever believe in love?
The Play Revisited
Music: Aretey / Lyrics: Phil Hennessy

This never-ending merry-go-round that we call Life,
has endless limitations
with ever-bending rules that abound The Strife,
and senseless imitations
…..It’s a broken dream
those spoken agreements all denied
It’s part of the Story…
Token bereavements, we decide
Directing the Scene
is some of the Show, that we create
Each section it seems that someone should know
Direct the Scene
is some of the Show, that we create
Someone should know,
which speed to narrate
Etheric prefixes to all we say
Generic re-mixes, every day
re-enacting each step of the journey
Overreacting, to all that we are learning
Directing the Scene
is some of the Show, that we create
Each section it seems that someone should know
Direct the Scene
is some of the Show, that we create
Someone should know,
which speed to narrate
Forsaken potions, numb the way
for each emotion we betray
Oh, sweet additions to our Chemistry
delete omissions from our Destiny
Standing Tall, and feeling Proud
past indiscretions, screaming loud
the harness, and the reigns so thight
So harmless are the games we fight
Awaiting our turn in the wings of the stage
preparing each verse, rehearsing each page
Achieving all with strong determination
Receiving all with such eternal patience
Ready or not, the cue is approaching
Steady or nog, the Truth must be spoken
the pretence is over, we step into place
presenting each word with such talented grace
That Wondrous feeling, that standing Ovation
the laughter, the Tears, the gratification
the curtains are closing: the scens have all
changed…..
uncertainty growing, and thoughts re-arranged…..
This huge old theatre (of Life) redesigned…..
The soon, the better, we all learn our lines…..
